⚡ SEVERE WEATHER
Our peak seasons for thunderstorms are spring and summer.
While most of our spring storms are associated with cold/warm fronts, most of our summer storm are referred to as “pop-up” storms.
These storms are very hit-and-miss, and result from very humid air being lifted by summertime heating.
Air rising up mountain slopes increases storm development in the mountains/foothills of the Carolinas.
🌀 HURRICANE SEASON
Hurricane season runs from June through November.
While only a handful of named storms track over our area, we can be affected by storms that track hundreds of miles away.
Our main threat here is heavy rain and inland flooding, but gusty wind can also occur with these storms.
It is very rare for storms of hurricane strength to pass directly over our area: we mainly get tropical storms and depressions.
