Upstate International stages first-ever Amazing Upstate Race on Aug. 21

Calling all Amazing Race fans! Upstate International is planning a full day of fun on Saturday, August 21, to help support its mission of cultural diversity and inclusion with the first-ever Amazing Upstate Race.
The nonprofit organizing is inviting businesses, families and individuals to participate in five challenges ranging from soccer and golf to axe throwing and aerial adventures. Designed for ages 10 and up, The Amazing Upstate Race will host 20 four-person teams.
“We developed this as kind of a Covid-friendly way to get teams from businesses and families together to do something really exciting and different here, and support educational programming for Upstate International,” said Upstate International Executive Director Tracie Frese.
The Amazing Upstate Race will begin at the Kroc Center with a World Cup soccer themed challenge hosted by the Greenville Triumph. Craft axe throwing at Hampton Station, an aerial challenge at TreeTop Quest Greenville and golf skills challenges at 3’s Greenville will follow. The day wraps up with a final challenge between the top four teams at Camperdown Plaza in downtown Greenville that will include an international party and awards program.
Spectators are welcome at each venue, especially the opening and closing challenges.
“It’s a great time to come out as a community and not only support these teams, but also these venues that are so kindly participating with us,” Frese said.
Established in 1997 as the National Cultural Alliance, Upstate International has for 23 years focused on diversity and inclusion, helping people and businesses of all nations to thrive in the Upstate by connecting them through programs, events and initiatives that foster the exchange of international cultures and ideas.
“The Upstate is really blessed. We are home to 564 internationally owned businesses, and because of that, global engagement has a real impact on our economy,” Frese said. “Our students and our young people’s futures will benefit greatly from the ability to engage globally, to understand the global marketplace, to work across cultures and to be able to communicate and not alienate each other.”
The Amazing Upstate Race is being sponsored by BDV Solutions, Elliott Davis LLC, T&S Brass and Bronze Works, BlueCross BlueShield, Argent Trust Company, Pelham Medical Center and Nelson Mullins.
