Upcountry History Museum now open seven days to meet visitor demand for White Christmas: The Exhibition

Who knew an exhibit about a 66-year-old movie could draw such a crowd?

White Christmas: The Exhibition has seen more than 1,200 visitors since its opening at Greenville’s Upcountry History Museum, A Smithsonian Affiliate, on Nov. 14, prompting the museum to expand its operating hours to seven days to accommodate visitor demand.

The largest known White Christmas movie collection in the world made Greenville its first stop for the newly created traveling exhibition. Costumes, props and memorabilia from the permanent collection at the Rosemary Clooney House Museum in Augusta, Kentucky, take visitors on a nostalgic journey and provide a rare glimpse at unforgettable moments from the 1954 film starring Rosemary Clooney, Bing Crosby, Vera-Ellen and Danny Kay.

A favorite holiday musical, White Christmas has created a life of its own for people of all ages and from all walks of life as it highlights the connections between U.S. military veterans, friendships forged in an effort to help others, and, of course, the undercurrent of romance between characters.

To meet the demand of exhibition visitors, Upcountry History Museum will be open Monday – Saturday from 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1:00 – 5:00 p.m. The last admission is at 4:00 p.m. The Museum will be closed Dec. 24-25 and Dec. 31-Jan. 1, 2021.

The Upcountry History Museum has taken the Greater Greenville Pledge and is committed to acting in accordance with the recommendations of the public health authorities to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 by following guidelines provided by the CDC and DHEC. Museum protocols include limited capacity, requiring facemasks for visitors ages 10 years and older, and offering no contact ticket purchasing through its website.

The cost is $10 and virtual tours can be booked online. To date, visitors from 15 states have signed up to tour the exhibition virtually, according to museum officials.

Upcountry History Museum also has partnered with The Children’s Museum of the Upstate and The Sigal Music Museum to offer a special holiday pass that allows admission to all three museums for $20.
