The Opossum’s Pouch Sanctuary, Rescue and Rehabilitation

What is the most misunderstood and unique animal native to South Carolina? Our only marsupial, the Virginia Opossum! Opossum’s are a valuable part of our ecosystem and there is a way you can help through The Opossum’s Pouch Sanctuary, Rescue and Rehabilitation.
The Opossum’s Pouch Sanctuary, Rescue and Rehabilitation’s mission is to educate the pubic, to rescue, to give medical care and sanctuary to all orphaned, injured or misplaced opossums. Their goal is to provide a forever home for all that cannot return to the wild.

If you are interested in learning to take care of orphaned opossum’s, The Opossum’s Pouch Sanctuary, Rescue and Rehabilitation offer medical and orphan care classes.
The Opossum’s Pouch Annual Medical & Orphan Care Class will be March 23 & 24.
There will be 3 sessions covering various topics:
- Basic Orphan Care Class – 3/23/19 from 9AM-Noon – $15 registration fee. Topics will include initial orphan intake procedures & tube feeding.
- Advanced Orphan Care Class – 3/23/19 from 1PM-4PM – $15 registration fee. This class is geared towards those who already have some orphan care experience (or have at a minimum attended the Basic Orphan Care Class). Advanced materials will be presented including some medical care.
- Medical Class – 3/24/19 from 10AM-4PM – $35 registration fee. Lunch Provided. Topics include recognizing and caring for Head Trauma, the latest medical research, as well as tried and true techniques from the field.
Fee if attending both Orphan Care classes (Basic & Advanced): $25
Fee if attending all 3 classes: $55
In April they will also have the:
- 2nd Annual Baby Shower to benefit orphans at The Opossum’s Pouch
2-4 on Saturday, April 27, 2019
