The 15th Annual Reedy River Duck Derby coming May 4th
GREENVILLE, S.C. – The Reedy River Duck Derby is back to celebrate the 15th year of the annual fundraiser that sends more than 10,000 yellow rubber ducks over the Reedy River Falls.
The event is set to take place Saturday, May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. along the Reedy River in downtown Greenville. The Duck Derby is hosted by the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville as the organizations primary project to give back to the Upstate communities. Camp, Early Act First Knight and United Ministries.
“The duck derby draws in more and more participants every year,” said Jessica St. Clair Smith, president of the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville. “We are thrilled that this event brings the community together not just for such a fun day, but also a great cause benefiting a lot of local organizations.”
Each year, those wanting to participate in the race sponsor the yellow rubber ducks in hopes that their duck makes it over the falls and through the chute first. First place winner receives free Publix groceries for a year, second place finisher gets $2,500 and third place wins a golf weekend at the Embassy Suits on Verdae.. The 2018 Duck Derby was the first time in event history that all 10,000 ducks were adopted.
“Last year was a record breaking year for the derby,” said Eric Krichbaum, immediate past president of the Rotary Club of the Reedy River Greenville. “We are hoping to add a few more elements to this year’s Duck Derby to make it bigger and better than ever.”
A single duck sponsorship is $10 and a five-duck “Quack Pack” is available for $30 through April 15. To support a team select the Team Tab at the top of the page. For more information on how to adopt a duck visit www.reedyriverrotary.org.
