Sync.MD gives parents secure access to health records
The Sync.MD app enables patients to securely request, store and instantly share health records.
Parents can use the app to keep their family’s health records and potentially life-saving medical information all in one place.
“Which would you like to have: a bundle of paper or an electronic copy on your phone?” Sync.MD Chief Medical Officer Dr. Paul Buehrens said. “They’re mobile just like you are. If you’ve moved, relocated, your records are with you because they’re stored in the cloud and you can access them anywhere in the world, anytime, 24/7.”
Why is having your family’s medical records at your fingertips important?
“When you walk into an emergency room at a new location, they don’t know you from Adam. They don’t have a thing on you. And if you’re not in your own healthcare system, they can’t pull you up on the computer to find out anything. They have to start from scratch. With Sync.MD, they can start with everything that’s already known about you,” Dr. Buehrens said.
Sync.MD makes it possible to share important data, such as immunization records, with providers, caregivers, family members, school officials, or anyone else who may need access.
Patients have individual profiles, and they have control over which documents they choose to share.
“You can link multiple profiles to the same phone number, so you as a parent are in control as to what is happening,” Sync.MD co-founder & CEO Eugene Luskin explained.
How does it work?
You can electronically request and share your records. You can also scan your records directly into your phone. This allows you to easily keep your medical records up to date and in one place.
To get started, smartphone users can download the Sync.MD app from the App Store or go to SyncMD.com and scan the QR Code with their phone’s camera.
Users will be prompted to scan their Drivers’ License and sign on the screen, then they can specify which provider they wish to request records from.
Users also can use the app while requesting or sharing records in person at a provider’s office. The healthcare provider simply goes to the Sync.MD website, and the patient scans the QR code displayed on the screen with his or her phone. That syncs the patient’s phone with the provider’s computer. Documents can then be dragged and dropped into the computer’s browser, with records immediately transferred to or from the patient’s smartphone.
“I walk into any office that has never heard of Sync.MD before. All I’m asking them to do is open Sync.MD.com in any browser. That is going to display a QR code. I show that QR code to the camera of my phone, so no additional devices are needed,” Luskin explained. “The moment I do that, they have all of my records in front of them. So that instant synchronization is basically the key for the entire workflow scenario.”
The Sync.MD app is free; however, patients will pay an average of $6.50 per release of records – a typical fee for the release of medical records in printed form, Luskin said.
How safe is it?
A former associate of Microsoft, Luskin holds several patents focused on data security. And more than half of Sync.MD’s technical team has expertise in securing and protecting data.
“Our main feature is security, but our main selling point is simplicity. That’s the key for our platform. More than half of the technical background of our team was in cyber security, including me personally,” Luskin said. “This platform was created initially as a very, very highly secure data platform to make sure that we protect privacy of patients, to make sure that we would protect the data from not just direct hacker attacks but social attacks.”
“In addition to securing databases and everything related to that, every patient’s personal record is secured separately, is encrypted separately, so we’re taking specific precautions on how to prevent any kind of massive or mass hackers’ attacks,” Luskin said.
