Sitel Group thriving, hiring thousands during pandemic

While the emergence of COVID-19 is dealing a blow to many businesses across the country, at least one Spartanburg company is thriving with a work-from-home model that is creating thousands of new jobs during the pandemic.
A global company with more than 100 offices in 28 countries, Sitel Group opened a facility in Spartanburg four and half years ago. Today, Spartanburg is considered a “flagship” office that is growing rapidly and consistently ranks at the top in employee satisfaction surveys, according to Skip Phillips, Community Marketing Lead for Sitel Group.
With almost 1,000 employees in Spartanburg and 85,000 worldwide, Sitel needs to expand its global workforce – by 10,000, in fact.
“We’re growing so rapidly that it’s difficult to keep up with the demand,” Phillips said. “We’re bringing on new clients every day.”
Phillips attributes Sitel’s explosive growth to the company’s ability to quickly adapt to the changing work environment brought about by the coronavirus pandemic. Before the consequences of COVID-19 would be fully realized, Sitel had already implemented a secure work-from-home platform that protected the safety of its employees and the assets of its clients.
Sitel also established mitigation strategies such as social distancing, mask requirements and temperature checks and limited access to its facilities to protect employees still working from the office at some clients’ request.
“We were able to quickly and nimbly mobilize, without any interruption in service to our clients,” Phillips said.
A customer service contact center with clients in banking, insurance, retail, healthcare, manufacturing and more, Sitel has an extensive training program that includes professional licensure courses and exams required to work in many industries. The company also offers discounts on college courses through a partnership with DeVry University.
Presently, Sitel has openings for agents, supervisors and operations managers, offering a high rate of advancement. “Ninety-eight percent of promotions come from within,” Phillips said.
To fill job openings, Sitel is participating in ongoing virtual job fairs presented by SC Works Greater Upstate, with the next online fair scheduled for Thursday, August 13, from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sitel also is pursuing a regional virtual job fair that includes openings at its Augusta, GA and Knoxville, TN locations.
