SC Works Greater Upstate to hold first ever Virtual Job Fair on Thursday, May 7

With traditional, in-person job fairs on hold due to social distancing, SC Works Greater Upstate will hold its first ever Virtual Job Fair on Thursday, May 7, with expected participation from about 30 area companies.

This first-time virtual event allows online interaction between employers and job seekers via email or live chat and includes features such as searchable job boards for candidates and resume databases for employers.

Companies and job seekers can participate in the May 7 event at no charge. Fair hours are 2 p.m. – 5 p.m.

“We’ve been considering a virtual job fair platform for some time,” said Johnnie-Lynn Crosby, Business Solutions Director at SC Works Greater Upstate. “The platform allows us to still deliver services during a time when in-person interaction is not possible.”

While South Carolina’s unemployment rate has soared in recent weeks because of COVID-19, many Upstate companies are still recruiting with more than 1,200 jobs available throughout Spartanburg, Greenville, Cherokee and Union counties, according to Crosby.

“The virtual job fair is an exciting new format for job seekers and a powerful marketing tool for companies,” she said. “An online event allows us to greatly extend our reach and potentially allows many more candidates to participate.”
