Registration closes this Thursday for 10th Annual SOOIE, Mauldin BBQ Cook-off

The City of Mauldin is calling all pit masters to register for the 10th Annual SOOIE, Mauldin BBQ Cook-off to be held September 18-19 at Mauldin Cultural Center.

There are 30 BBQ Team slots available this year, and the registration period ends this Thursday, April 30. Cookers will be notified of their acceptance on May 8.

The event is sanctioned and judged by the South Carolina Barbeque Association, with cash prizes awarded to first, second, third, fourth and fifth place finishers.

Teams are required to participate in Friday’s “Anything Butt” competition that showcases their non-BBQ skills. Sliders, grilled chicken and even smoked cobbler could be on the menu.

A $125 registration fee is required and due for each team at the time of application. The fee is non-refundable for accepted teams and the City of Mauldin reserves the right to reject any registration. If a registration is denied, the applicant will receive a full refund. Should a team cancel its registration after it has been received, accepted, and processed, a refund will be issued if the event coordinators can fill the empty slot with another cook team.
