GREENVILLE, SC (WSPA) – There’s a “Panda-monium” at the Greenville Zoo as resident red panda, Collette, welcomes three new cubs into the world.
The excitement started when a zookeeper found Collette in the process of giving birth while making her final rounds on June 12.
She had two females cub and one male cub, the first set of triplets born at the Greenville Zoo since 2006.
It may be several weeks before guests can see the new cubs, as their eyes are still closed and they rely completely on their mother.
However, they might catch a glimpse of the newborns when Collette moves them from one den to another.
These cubs are the first offspring of Collette and Steve, the father, but this was Collette’s second pregnancy.
Her first cub, Willie Nelson, was transferred to a zoo in Knoxville as part of a red panda species survival program, so Collette is glad these cubs will get to stay with her.
