Petals Tea Shop crafts book-themed blends, promotes literacy in Greenville Co.

GREENVILLE, S.C. – If you’re a book lover or know someone who is, you need to check out Petals Tea Shop!

What began as a hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic quickly evolved into a passion-driven business for Petals Tea Shop owner Lynn Flake.

“The tea shop kind of started kind of as a COVID thing using our backyard garden to make things,” she said with a laugh. “So, that’s where it all began, and it just grew from there. I really enjoyed the business side of it. I really got into learning about tea and making teas, and I realized I kind of had a knack for it,” she explained. “As a teacher and a huge bookworm, it felt natural to take some of my passions and put them together in a way that we could to give back to the community.”

Petals Tea Shop is known for their book-themed tea creations. Flake said she reads a book, gets inspired, and then crafts a blend to complement the story.

“One of our top-selling blends is Starfall Tea. It is a lavender Earl Gray blend. It sparkles, and it has little sliver star sprinkles in it. It is inspired by a holiday in a book series called A Court of Thorns and Roses” she explained. “We have teas to go with every genre you can imagine. Every time I read a new book and I feel that the inspiration strikes, I go for it. Teas and books just go together.”

Not only are the teas delicious and fun, but every purchase also helps put books into the hands of children who need them the most.

“As a former reading teacher, I believe strongly in creating opportunities for kids who don’t necessarily have equal access to reading for one reason or another. So, if that’s something that we can step in and do, we certainly do,” Flake explained. “We donated over 1,400 books last year. We use our profits to donate those books, and we work with organizations like Camp Spearhead, the Ronald McDonald House, several different fostering organizations and tutoring organizations for disadvantaged families, and whatever we can do to give back locally and meet that need for literacy.”
