Pearls & Pumps annual fundraiser for breast health goes virtual on Oct. 13

The 7th annual Pearls & Pumps benefiting the Bon Secours Pearlie Harris Center for Breast Health will be a virtual event on Tuesday, October 13, featuring online shopping, a fashion show and stories from breast cancer survivors.
This year’s fundraiser kicks off with a virtual marketplace that will open on October 6, followed by the main event a week later. Those purchasing an event ticket will receive a link to the online market.
The Pearls & Pumps event on October 13 will include real stories from local breast cancer survivors and remarks from Dr. Stephen Dyar, Medical Director for Oncology Operations who oversees medical operations of the St. Francis Cancer Center. The evening culminates with a fashion show featuring breast cancer survivors.
“It is really important for us to keep this event going every year,” said Karri Westmoreland of Bon Secours St. Francis Foundation. “It is the primary funding source for our mammogram screenings. There are a lot of ladies who don’t have insurance or are underinsured with high deductibles, so a lot of them opt out of getting these preventative screenings done.”
Also new at 2020 Pearls & Pumps is the opportunity to make donations to purchase wigs for those going through cancer treatment, Westmoreland added. “Wigs are a huge part of the emotional healing for our breast cancer patients and we want to give a wig to those ladies who can’t afford one.”
