Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg hosting online fundraiser during National Children’s Dental Health Month in February

February is National Children’s Dental Health Month and Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg is raising money all month to continue to provide free dental screenings and oral health services for children in all school districts of Spartanburg County.
“Oral health is the key to overall health, so we’re all about giving children a fighting chance,” said Kitta Cates, Executive Director of Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg Inc. “We want to make sure that children are succeeding at school and you can’t do that if you have a world of hurt going on in your mouth or if you can’t sleep at night or get the right nutrition because you can’t eat.”
Like many nonprofits, Healthy Smiles had to cancel its Laugh For A Child annual in-person fundraiser in 2020 and 2021. So, the organization has taken its popular Golden Crown Contest online, allowing the public to vote for their favorite dental practice in a creative competition that features 15 dentists and their staffs in their own movie posters.
The pandemic-themed posters include The Three Stooges of Dentistry starring Carolina Smiles, LLC, The Lord of the Dental Office featuring Boiling Springs Dentistry and Covidbusters starring Meadow Creek Family Dentistry.
Then, there’s Mask, a rendition of Grease starring the office of Dr. Lina Miraziz and featuring the lyrics, “Tell me more, tell me more, like does he wear a mask?” And A League of Their Own starring Spartanburg Family Dentistry reminds us “There’s no crying in quarantine.”
Go HERE to view the movie posters and to vote. Each vote is $10 and the winner will be announced on Friday, March 5, on Your Carolina with Jack and Megan which airs from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on WSPA Channel 7 in the Upstate. Then, tune into CW 62 that evening at 7:30 for a Jerry Lewis-style Smile-A-Thon.
