Berry Hill Blends opens açaí bowls restaurant in Greer
It started as a healthy snack for Hill family hikes, then it became a food truck. Now, Berry Hill Blends has a brick-and-mortar restaurant in Greer serving açaí bowls.
“We love going hiking at Paris Mountain and eating healthy,” said Berry Hill Blends Owner Crystal Hill. “I’d make açaí bowls and take them with us, have our coffee and do our thing. Then, my aunt decided maybe I should start selling them.”
A food truck proved the most inexpensive way to get started for the first-time business owner. Using Imagine Kitchens on The Parkway in Greer as her prep kitchen, Hill typically took her truck to the Lake Walk Tiny Home community in Greer. After more than a year of building a brand and a following, she took the leap and opened a stationary location.
“We kind of outgrew the food truck – employee-wise and business-wise, and here we are,” Hill said. “We’re excited to be in Greer. I feel very excited that the location is going to be good. There’s easy access on (Highway) 14 and (South) Buncombe.”
For those unfamiliar with an açaí bowl, it’s a thick smoothie base made of pulped and flash-frozen acai berries that are pureed with other frozen fruit, then served in a bowl and topped with a variety of fresh fruit, granola, seeds, nuts, peanut butter or yogurt.
“You build your own,” Hill said. “It’s you pick.”
Hill’s pick is the açaí base topped with vanilla Greek yogurt, cinnamon pecan granola, a bit of honey oat, berries, shredded coconut, honey and coconut whipped topping.
And with berry in the name and berries being an integral part of the bowls, Hill says she works hard to secure local fruit for her local business.
“I’m all about fresh,” Hill says. “We want it good every time you get it.”
Berry Hill Blends offers dine in, carry out and drive-thru options. Customers can get a ready-to-eat bowl or order a frozen açaí base to eat later.
