41st annual Pumpkin Festival to be held Oct. 12 in Pumpkintown

The weather may not yet scream Fall, but the pumpkins do and there’ll be hundreds of them during the 2019 Pumpkin Festival at Oolenoy Community House in Pumpkintown, SC on Saturday, October 12.
The annual Pumpkin Festival in Pickens County is a day filled with food, live music, dance team performances and more than 150 vendors displaying a variety of handcrafted items including wood products, soaps, candles, jewelry, wreaths, seasonal decor, pet items, local honey and a whole lot more. Entertainment will include a 1 p.m. performance by the Mountain Bridge Band, a bluegrass band based in the Upstate.
The fun starts at 9 a.m. and continues until 5 p.m. at the Oolenoy Community House. Built as an elementary school in 1918, the historic structure in the heart of Pumpkintown is a center of activity in Pickens County. Every Friday night for the past 30 years, the community center has served up bluegrass music at a jam session open to anyone who wants to join in and has been this site of the Pumpkin Festival since 1978.
“The Pumpkin Festival is the best craft/music/food festival in the Upstate,” said event representative Sandy Hamilton. “You’ll find true hand crafts and you can spend the day here under the trees enjoying the music, eating, shopping and hanging out.”
As its name suggests, Pumpkintown and its annual Pumpkin Festival offer visitors a great autumn outing with vivid fall colors amid amazing views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. Located near Table Rock State Park, this unincorporated community in northeastern Pickens County was settled before 1791. According to historical records, Pumpkintown was so named by an early traveler who was amazed by the large yellow pumpkins that covered the fields of nearby Oolenoy River Valley.
Festival organizers remind attendees that the Oolenoy Community building and surrounding property are tobacco- and vape-free grounds. No dogs are allowed at the event except service dogs. All parking is in nearby fields that may be unlevel and visitors must walk along the road to reach the event. No special handicap parking is available on the festival grounds.
