2nd Annual Three Sisters Dinner: A Seasonal, Five-Course Feast Benefiting the Furman Farm
Travelers Rest, S.C. – Food, farming, and community are coming together in a powerful way at the 2nd Annual Three Sisters Dinner, hosted by Topsoil Restaurant in collaboration with Furman University’s Shi Institute for Sustainable Communities.
Set for Wednesday, October 29, 2025, this one-of-a-kind event invites guests to enjoy a seasonal, five-course feast created by Executive Chef Adam Cooke of Topsoil. Each dish will feature ingredients sourced directly from the Furman Farm, celebrating the “Three Sisters”, corn, beans, and squash, crops that have been grown together for centuries in Indigenous agriculture.
“This partnership is all about connection,” said Bruce Adams, Furman Farm Manager and a fourth-generation farmer. “It’s about connecting people to their food, to the land it comes from, and to the local community that supports it. Events like this dinner help us sustain that mission and educate future generations about the importance of regenerative agriculture.”
All proceeds from the dinner will support the Furman Farm’s regenerative agriculture projects, student internships, and educational outreach programs. Last year’s inaugural dinner raised more than $6,500 to fund local sustainability and resilience efforts across the Upstate.
For Chef Adam Cooke, a James Beard Award nominee, the event represents the heart of what farm-to-table dining truly means. “At Topsoil, we believe in telling the story behind every ingredient. Working with the Furman Farm allows us to do that in the most authentic way possible, by celebrating what grows here and who grows it,” Cooke said.
The Three Sisters Dinner is part of an ongoing partnership between Topsoil and the Furman Farm, with both organizations dedicated to creating community-driven experiences that highlight sustainable food systems. Upcoming collaborations include volunteer opportunities, community workshops in 2026, and a special lecture by author and botanist Robin Wall Kimmerer on November 4 at Furman University.
Together, the Furman Farm and Topsoil are building a model of collaboration that celebrates local food, fosters sustainability, and strengthens the Upstate’s connection to the land.
